Any news on how the prototype is coming along? Any updates on projected availability?

In another post, there was mention that the battery would be 44 lbs. in the high end model. Do you have a target weight for the high end model? Unless, the chassis is incredibly light, the scarpar sounds nigh uncarriable. Have any special considerations been made to make it portable for moderate distances? (think into/outof highrise apartments and office buildings in NYC)

If there is a high end model, is there a non-high end model? And if so, do you have a target weight and wattage for it?

Hi Cielo ... lots of questions Thanks ... we'll do our best to answer all of them. Please note, we aren't being evasive, but we are at a sensitive time right now and during early prototyping things can change, weight optimisation happens, and there are other things can change. We don't want to release incorrect information, so bear with us while we make sure it's right. As soon as we are confident about the information, we'll release it.

We will complete prototype detailed engineering in the next week. Physical prototyping will commence early in September. Revisions will happen subsequent to mechanical testing and in-field testing. Think board being built by automotive engineers ... takes time, but you will be blown away by the result.

Early 2011 at this stage ... we are going to struggle to hit the end of this year. Anything's possible, but likely delivery is early 2011 based on what we know now. This said, we'll know enough by the end of September or some time in October at the latest to release reasonably final specs and also start taking deposits.

Yes. We had a target ... problem is that it wasn't realistic. We really didn't know how much is would weigh because we don't have a reference point. If it were a car, there are plenty of reference points. There just isn't anything similar that we can use. EDAG was given a wish list of specs including the weight, but the primary goals were robustness, reliability, performance specs, that it be electric powered and that it look awesome! Unfortunately it'll be heavier than we want. The battery weight is about 2kWh of lithium phosphate batteries (LiFePo4) which is how much we need on the high end model to run 2 x 1kW motors for our target run-time. We are always looking for weight reduction options so long as they don't push us outside out target cost and don't affect our primary goals.

We are going to make sure that a person can transport the vehicle on their own. Irrespective of the end weight, we will ensure that one person can lift it into and out of their trunk / book / RV / 4WD / Utility / Hummer / trailer ... whatever.

I appreciate the issues with high-rise, but you won't be taking your snowmobile, jetski, ATV or MX bike up there either!

The release models are designed for off-road use. 'Powersports for Board Riders' ... we aren't trying to build a light weight commuter product ... right now. If we thought we could get a legal commuter model later, and there was sufficient demand, everything can always be made lighter for a price.

Yes there will be an entry level model at this point. Specs are not finalised, but right now, the design specifies 2 x 500w motors and a lot less batteries, so probably 10-20lbs lighter than the high end model.

Everything subject to change without notice etc etc etc ... for the moment.

    Thanks for the questions!

    Cheers,
